Happy 4th July
My dad was in the air force so my childhood was made up of a lot of travelling about. One of the towns I lived in was Woomera, way back when it was an air force town.
The town was an island village in the middle of the desert and it was made up of Australians and Americans. The Australians celebrated right alongside the Americans when their holidays came up. Not including sitting in the audience and coughing through a stage production of Oklahoma, or the trauma of seeing Kermit the Frog in a Halloween haunted house walkthrough, the 4th of July holiday was one of my strongest memories from that period - There was the parade down main street, and a rock band and fireworks at night.
Tonight my family will have fish & chips for dinner and afterwords will pull out the sparklers for the kids, to mark the moment and commemorate my time with the Americans.
