Fab Finds 7

It has certainly been a long while since I've done my fab finds. Well,  let's get into it shall we.

During a 'pirate ship' Google search I found some great objects for decorating a kids bedroom. First is this pirate ship ceiling lamp, which can be found here.

Continuing on with the pirate theme this pattern for a fabric pirate ship also caught my eye over at Craftsy. Check it out right here.

One of my favourite graphic artists, Evie Barrow has this sweet as DIY card and envelope. Evie's design was a Mother's Day tribute, and even though the celebration for this year has already passed, you can still make good use of the envelope pattern. Check it here.

I have new art available on Red Bubble called Lantern Tea Party. It is inspired by one of my girls who sometimes dreams of waking up in the middle of the night and having a midnight party. This art piece depicts how I imagine the kids' midnight party would look.

Cat's Meow

Melissa Gaggiano doll design
On the weekend, quite on a whim, I made another doll. I mix and matched pieces from different patterns I had designed, and I altered the head of the doll to make it seem cat-like. I also up cycled the fabric. I don't often work with knitted fabric when using a sewing machine, but I had a winter shirt that I simply was not wearing, so it got used. I got to say sewing with knit is a bit like roller skating with crazy loose wheel steering. But it was oh so much easier turning the doll through and putting in doll filler.

New Things From Me

Do you feel that cosmic sigh of relief as Friday night kicks in. I do, and now I have a few nice things to announce.

For starters I'd like to share news of a sale made on Red Bubble just the other day. I love the look and clickety clack sound of typewriters, and so I did a digital drawing of one. Click clack clickety clack.

Creative Unfocus

Melissa Gaggiano Photography

Do you have any idea? Even the tiniest speck of a notion of what it feels to be so incapable of starting something and just sticking to it without immediately moving on to the next amazing, brilliant thing? I have inside my massively over driven, high octane, restless brain a billion and one thoughts and ideas screaming and chanting at me every day, every hour [and most especially at 3 o’clock in the morning] all striving for my attention. With each brain fart becoming louder than the next.
Okay, so? You’re creative.
Yes, I am creative. A creative mess, that is! So help me goddess, I am absolutely hopeless with sticking to just That One Thing and becoming sublimely fabulous with that outlet, whether it be drawing, painting, photography, writing, violin, making dolls, knitting, DIY learning French for Dummies. And so I travel from one creative village to another hoping to find a place to call home. And there are times when I think I have found it, but the next day a new wind blows and beckons me on to the next project. I feel like I am living the story of Chocolat.
Just accept that you haven’t found your thing.
Don’t say that. That’s not helping. Don’t you understand the dome of paralysis I am living under? My frenetic journey, as I dash from one activity to another, is enough to drive anyone crazy, even you, you annoyingly calm, reasonable person. Some days I am so driven to distraction that my mind completely seizes up and I am incapable of making a single decision. On days like that I wind up staring at my navel completely paralysed by the choices before me. I am just so scared of making the wrong decision. I am even more terrified of making the right decision, if you can even fathom that paradox.
What do you want to do about this?
You can help me make a decision. What do you think I excel at?
I don’t know. Maybe you can focus on the drawing.
Are you crazy? But what about the writing? Or the photography? I might be missing my true calling if I don’t do those things. And then… and then…
And then what?
I have to lie down. I think my brain just fell out the back of my head.

New Things From Me

At the start of the week, not a whole lot of new was happening. I was mostly just thinking, thinking, thinking.
The last couple of days I got busy doll making and drawing. Not to say I'm not still thinking, because I'm always thinking. Would you believe it took two days to make this doll? And it took me an estimated two hours to work on the below illustration.

Dreams of a Summer Repose

Are you feeling the sharp bite of Autumn? Are you dreaming of warm summer days? When it is hot we wish for cooler days. And when it is finally cold all we want is for the sun to be closer. We just can't be satisfied.
