Hello Again Ragamuffin

Mixtape Issue 10

    This morning I took a trip into the past. One of the first doll designs that I came up with, years and years ago, appeared in a delightful zine called Mixtape. Then this morning as I was googling stuff I discovered an interesting photo on Flickr. Reddodge had made a Ragamuffin for their cat Nancy Drew. You can view the photo here.

    I wonder how many other Ragamuffins are out there in the world sleeping in cat beds right now.

My Creative Space...

I have a few different projects lined up at the moment, as you can see below.

My first embroidery project.

Slowly but surely I have been working on my very own piece of embroidery. This will take a while to do as I decided not to have a deadline for this. So I can take it and leave it.

Punk Girl 

Punk Girl has the potential for becoming a homemade doll. I want to make her for the Softies for Mirabel project. But we'll see how I go for time and resources over the coming weeks.

Emjie zine in progress

Then there is my zine. Okay, admittedly I am not hitting the time that I wanted this finished, I am just waiting for some bits and pieces to come through. Hopefully not much longer though.

What's Up Doc?

I have been knee deep in some projects, but I wanted to touch base with you.
One of my projects has been preparing my next zine issue. I actually missed coming out with a Winter issue this year. I am making up for it, by making my Spring issue just a little more special. I hope to finish the zine at the latest first week of October.


The other project has been my embroidery, as you can see below. I didn't know if this was going to work out well, as I am embroidering one of my own sketches, titled So Cal Noir. But, guess what! It is coming out just fine.

I also want to share a little bit of retro with you. Yesterday I was under the house, searching for some old badges, which, by the way, made me feel like Alice when she grew too big for the room. I also stumbled across my Jem doll and this poster that came with her.
Oh how I loved Jem when I was a little girl, and I still do. This Hasbro creation has been in my heart since the age of seven. That makes… hold on, let me do the math — 27 years.

Where I Am

I am busy juggling a few things at the moment.

• I am trying to crochet a panda at the moment — a hair pulling experience for a beginner who struggles with written instruction.
  
• Still working on my zine — this activity is moving at a slothful rate. Partly because I want it to be picture perfect when it is done.
• I am developing a character (The Gwendo) who likes to ride her skate board. Not fully certain where I'll go with this idea as I have only just begun fleshing out this one.

Muchas Gracias Mixtape

Oh! I do so like receiving special posts. Today I was incredibly stoked when I checked the letter box as I was to find a fat envelope from Mixtape.

Mixtape sent me two copies of the latest zine issue, plus a cute lil' button badge that said "I write for Mixtape" (and so I did!)

One of my designs features in this issue of Mixtape. Yay for me!

Pahr-Tee at the 321

Lat night my lil family headed out in style over to Fitzroy where there was a lovely soiree, which we had been invited to. It was at in.cub8r Gallery and the party was to celebrate the Second Birthday of both in.cub8r Gallery and MixTape.

Although we couldn't stay more than half an hour (it was baby's first big night out) a lovely time was had, and there was so much 'wonderful' to see. The walls and display cases were filled with papercrafts, ornaments, jewellery, wall poster art and indie fashion. I just wanted to buy a little something of everything.

Before heading back home I bought a couple of books from the gallery:

• Handmade Nation

My First Kaleidoscope

It may seem quiet on the blog front, but in actual fact I have been busy on a number of different projects.

I am still working on my winter zine, which I imagine will take a couple of weeks to produce.

Today for a bit of fun I developed the below image, inspired by the kaleidoscope. I rather like this effect and I am thinking of creating more images in this style.

Pink Plush Elephant

Yesterday I made this elephant for my husband, M-Boo, as a special treat. This elephant was made from a pattern that I won from Mixtape zine a few months back. The original designers of this elephant are the crafters Audrey & Maude.

I made the elephant from fabric scraps and an old pillow case.

I might get started on another plush doll this afternoon. I am thinking of using a sausage dog pattern that I have had waiting for the perfect occasion.

Don't you just love progress. This Saturday just gone I posted to Sticky Institute ten copies of my latest zine... Emjie Zine - Issue 2, 2009.

Emjie Zine Issue 1

On Saturday just gone I posted to Sticky Institute ten copies of my latest zine.

The zine is a compilation of my best and favorite artwork from the recent year. To cut down the cost of printing I lovingly produced the zine as a computer disk, and the design you see pictured herein is the actual zine holder.
