My Creative Space

So what is in my creative space this week. Well, I have this doll. Though admittedly this doll was mostly done a couple of weeks ago. I did finish her this week, cutting long threads and removing gathered stitches.
I will be presenting this little hot head to my eldest for her birthday this coming weekend.
The design is a Mark II of a doll pattern from late last year, which can be seen here

This week I have been illustrating [as above] and contemplating my navel a somewhat.

I also bought a Lego set using my Xmas money. I was originally planning on buying a few reading books, but when I saw this beach side house it simply called to me. I say you're never too old for Lego. It has actually been therapeutic building this thing.

My Creative Space

This week I have had a couple of different craft projects on the go. I finished sewing some felty pizza slices. Began work on a new doll design. And have now begun knitting a basic sleep mask using a discontinued fuzzy fabric that is cool and light.

I have a couple of projects on the go - crochet, writing and the occasional sketch doodle. And today I finished making this here decorative hair clip. I think my eldest likes it. Half an hour later and it is still in her hair.

My Creative Space

This week my creative space has been all about photography. I watched a trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman, which by the way I am very excited about. So excited in fact that I went about doing a Snow White inspired photo shoot on a budget.
I wanted to do this whole thing with a girl in the snow and an apple. I didn't have real snow available so I used a white bed sheet. I didn't have a fancy princess dress, but the universe answered my call, and I discovered the perfect dress in an op-shop window.

My Creative Space

This week in my creative space I have a few different things on the boil, including knitting a Barbie blanket and a paper mache project [attempting to build a Pinky Ponk], brainstorming future projects, writing and doodling.

My Creative Space

In my creative space this week I have begun a granny square blanket project. This is my first attempt at making granny squares. It is all quite new and exciting for me.
This is going to be quite a large blanket. I have estimated that I'll be making 204 squares so this will most definitely be a long term project. I am giving myself a whole year to get it done.

Yesterday, in a fit of creativity I pulled out one of my craft books - Meet Me At Mike's: 20 crafty projects... and the result was the Udderly Lovely Cow.

This is the book.

This is the project.

My Creative Space

Or, otherwise known as the ice cream entry.

My daughter's latest obsession has been ice cream. Which is funny considering her limited exposure to any form of candy. So this morning my husband suggested I crochet an ice cream cone for Gwen to play with.
Gwen and I just returned from the wool and knitting shop with a 4 mm crochet hook and 4 different yarns to produce the below pictured ice cream cone.
If it is not too difficult I might even try making two ice cream cones.
Mmmm! All this talk about ice cream and now I just want to eat a cornetto.

Straying a little from the instructions — I will use Dazzle yarn.

My Creative Space

My scarf notes.

Inspiration: Harry Potter scarfs.

Today I shall begin knitting myself a scarf. I have been inspired by the long scarfs, which were worn in one of the Harry Potter films. The colour scheme I have chosen is inspired by another blogger’s jumper knitting, which also used black and pink. As soon as I saw these two colours together I just knew how my scarf project would be.
Yesterday my daughter and I made a small trip to the local wool shop. I am so lucky it is only a two-minute walk. I chose my knitting yarn for my scarf, plus some pink ribbon for Gwen [the ribbon became a lead for a certain Barbie car, so that it can be pulled along.].

My Creative Space

It's funny, how without really thinking too hard about it I suddenly find myself with a few different projects on the go.
Anyone who has been following my blog of late will notice a switch to writing. Though I still do find myself being drawn (pun entirely intended) to my illustrations, to accessorise and compliment my writing.
The past few days I have been knitting a red beanie for myself. A few months ago I declared that this year would be all about the colour red. I simply had to have something in my wardrobe that is red — whether that be a hat or shoes. The year was getting on and I still had not made good on my promise to myself. Now that we are heading into cooler days and I had been knitting beanies for other family members it just fell into place. I would knit myself a red beanie. Just imagine it — red beanie and red lipstick, together at last. Maybe when my pregnancy is over I can look at getting a pair of red high heel shoes to complete the look.

Today I have been working on a birthday card, combining illustration, water colour paints, and stencil paper crafts — something with a 20s feel.
I might even look at decorating some homemade wrapping paper. Though we'll see what my energy levels say about that.

My Creative Space

You can laugh. Honestly, I don't really mind. It is funny.
Last night in my brains pregnancy addled condition I confused the rules of the colour wheel while preparing the cupcake icing. Intending to have green icing, I mixed the wrong food colours. My brain was thinking ‘red and yellow’. My hand removed from the cupboard and mixed ‘red and blue’. Thus resulting in a black toned blue.
Doesn't really matter though — the cupcakes tasted lovely.

Also in my creative space, I have been thinking and writing. Mostly getting this in when my daughter is having her afternoon naps or in the evening after dinner has been taken care of and again daughter is in bed. My little written pieces include:

Bit by bit each day, I have been working on a story for a local short story competition. But you'll have to wait a while before I share that one.

My Creative Space

Tonight I finished knitting this beanie for my daughter. Thank goodness it fits. Thank goodness Gwen didn't have another chance to undo my work. And thank goodness this was a small project. Not bad for a design-it-as-I-go project. I will look at making more, for Bubba No. 2.

My Creative Space...

On the first day of March Mother Nature literally flipped a switch and the gentle breezes let us know that we can finally breathe comfortably. These days I am more of cold weather person, and would be the last person to complain about chilly days. After all the cold weather means eating tasty hot dinners and drinking hot chocolate — Who can say no to that?

On a creative front, this week I have been doodling in my sketch book, knitting a beanie for my two year old (it'll match a skirt I recently made for her), reading Mansfield Park, and playing Tomb Raider: Underworld on my DS.

Earlier in the week my daughter and I sat down together with a cutting a gluing project. As you can see below.

My Creative Space...

The past couple of weeks I have been working on a piece of embroidery. I am usually working on this in the evening or during the day when Gwen is having a nap. So it has been slow progress. It is getting there.

My Creative Space...

I have a few different projects lined up at the moment, as you can see below.

My first embroidery project.
Slowly but surely I have been working on my very own piece of embroidery. This will take a while to do as I decided not to have a deadline for this. So I can take it and leave it.

Punk Girl
Punk Girl has the potential for becoming a homemade doll. I want to make her for the Softies for Mirabel project. But we'll see how I go for time and resources over the coming weeks.

Emjie zine in progress
Then there is my zine. Okay, admittedly I am not hitting the time that I wanted this finished, I am just waiting for some bits and pieces to come through. Hopefully not much longer though.

My Creative Space...

Yesterday I finished sewing two dresses for Gwen (as pictured below). I had intended to have three dresses ready, but the first (not pictured) was more or less a work in progress, and some pattern changes were necessary to achieve perfection.

These dresses will be good for Gwen when the weather warms up a bit. The fabric is light and airy. The prints are cute as.

My Creative Space...

This week I finished a painting which will go on the bedroom wall of a future nephew/niece. Although you can't tell from the photo there is actually glitter within the paint of the night sky.

This week I have been working a little bit on a short story for a local writing competition. On top of that I am reading Knit Knit, a book that I borrowed from the library (for the second time).

It is a time of contemplation for me at the moment — this happens a lot. There are always so many things I want to try, and not enough hours in the day to do it all. Do I focus on drawing? Or on writing? On sewing? Or knitting? Or can I combine all of the above?

Check out what other people are doing in their creative spaces over at Kootoyoo.
