I just discovered that a group of butterflies is known as a kaleidoscope. How neat is that? I can picture it, being inside a kaleidoscope filled with butterflies. I've made one of these My Poppet toadstool pin cushions for myself. It was so good, my youngest asked me to make her one. So I did, with just one lil' tweak - needle felting the spots on. Recently I added a wonderful paper crafting package to my design, crafting supplies. With all the OOAK doll making I do it became increasingly important that I consider portability and presentation of my designs. I was always able to find boxes to suit my smaller pieces, but it was another story for my longer, more narrow dolls.
I got my answer when I came across a Crafter's Companion kit – Top Score Multiboard which provides me with templates and instructions to build my own gift and product boxes. It even comes with instructions, a DVD project guide and a template for making envelopes. How awesome is that! I've already begun playing around with the scoring templates which allow me to form straight embossed lines and cute ornamentation. There are so many things I can do with my Crafter's Companion kit – card making, boxes, envelopes, catalogues, miniature books. But for now I can hardly wait to make my first box. Oh boy! It's going to be great.
It is a wet wintery day. The conditions are perfect for staying in doors and craft books. Every crafty supply I could think of for the kids is on the table.
My youngest loves Batman, and now that she has been watching the Batman animated series she has now discovered Cat Woman. So now interchangeably she will call herself Batman or Cat Woman. I made her a paper mask which can either be a Batman or Cat Woman mask. Hey! It looks like both. And now I am sharing the mask design with you as a DIY. Materials
Black paper or card
Thin elastic
Steps
Print the below provided pattern. It will fit on an A4 page.
Cut out the pattern along the unbroken lines.
Place pattern over black paper and trace an outline of the mask.
Cut out the outline of the mask.
Fold along the dotted line location [as seen on the pattern].
Using a stiletto [or needle or pen head] punch a thin hole into the sides of the mask where the dots are [as seen on the pattern].
Measure the elastic to fit around back of child's head.
Feed the elastic through the holes in mask and tie two knots. And you're done, just in time for Halloween.
I just finished making this paper crafted wolf mask. It took a bit of paper, glue, paint and elastic to bring this girl to life. The mask will be a prop for a fairy tale photo shoot. I can hardly wait to see how it looks in the photos post production.
Instead of a Hallmark how about making your own mark when giving someone a card. Today I whipped together this little birthday card for a niece soon to be turning two. I made my own heart stencil, used scrapbooking paper, art knife, pen and a sewing machine.

After spending a week working on a new paper cutting project, and having to do it in lots of short bursts, I was mighty surprised to find myself ploughing through it this morning. Granted my back is a tad sore now. But just look at what I accomplished. Totally worth it. All you Street Fighter fans will recognise who I've cut out here.
This art work was intended as a birthday surprise for my husband. But I don't think I can wait four months to give this to him. I'm going to present it to him tonight when he gets home. Excited much!!! I'm practically clapping my hands with delight.
