My Creative Space

This week in my creative space I have a few different things on the boil, including knitting a Barbie blanket and a paper mache project [attempting to build a Pinky Ponk], brainstorming future projects, writing and doodling.

My doodlings.

More of my doodlings.

Oh, and look, even more of my doodlings.

Move 3 Spaces and Save Ferris

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

One of many iconic film figures from my childhood is the charmingly uncatchable, saveable Ferris. For the uninitiated [or anyone born after the 80s] I am of course referring to the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Several months ago I was excited to find that illustrator Maxim Dalton created a board game based on this film. The board game was created as an art piece for exhibition, so sadly there was a very short run of this board game. Oh my! That board game would have made a great addition to my home. Only I do not know if I would play it, or frame it.

Wednesday Peeps

This week I am attempting to write a story, in week two of a course called The Artist's Way [by Julia Cameron], knitting a blanket for Barbie [at the request of my eldest], doodling drawings, attempted to cook a poached egg [I mention it now but let us not speak of it again - absolute disaster], dreaming of eating a pecan pie, wanting to wear sparkly sneakers and a pink cowgirl hat.
The other night I dreamt that I met Harry Kim [of Star Trek: Voyager] up the street. And he excitedly shows me a letter press that just happened to be out in the street. I see that a template zine is already set up in the machine and I imagine making my own zine with it. Yeah! Welcome to my brain.

The girls at play.

New stationery for working on a story.

Fish 'n' Chips

Photography by Melissa Gaggiano

The fish 'n' chip shop is open,
This almost winter's night
Rolling the bins out, I notice
the shining beacon of light.
Driven to distraction,
A smell sensation, a sensory delight.
No doubt there'll be fish 'n' chips,
On the table tonight.

Yesterday my eldest wanted to make a train. So we had two sessions throughout the day, as we painted, cut glued and taped this little train. And yes, that is supposed to be Thomas the Tank Engine.
We used feathers, a tissue box, toilet roll, cereal box, glitter, glue, texta, paint and tape.

Today's Exploits

My eldest invited me to draw with her, so I pulled out my water colours and made this...

Later I captured my eldest in angelic lighting conditions. I love how the sunlight has her backlit.

It has been very quiet on the blogging front. I have definitely been all blogged out - as in no fresh thoughts to share. Plus I have been plenty busy in other areas of my life.
For one thing I have been working on my granny square blanket project. And I am happy to say that it is pretty much finished. All that's left to do is lacing up the hanging threads. And let me tell you that is one tedious job. Makes me wish I'd worked on those threads as I worked.

Lily's Lil Bro Alfie

Honestly, this is one of my favourite music videos. It is a Lily Allen song. I highly recommend watching this one [fair warning though, there is a little bit of naughty language but it really is just a bit of naughty nice fun]. Happy weekend yall...

This Dark Morning

Photography by Melissa Gaggiano
I cannot believe how dark it was at 7 o'clock this Saturday morning. I thought for sure it was more like 5 o'clock, considering how dark it was, and how exhausted I felt.
Still, up we all hopped. A baby wanted breakfast and homemade raisen bread was on the chef's agenda.

Love To Love You, Donna

I was completely floored a few minutes ago to hear of the passing of Donna Summer. She was a beautiful lady, both inside and out. Silly as it sounds,I think it came as such a shock because an immature part of my mind simply thought she would live forever.
My first introduction to Donna came at the beginning of the 90s, when my dad bought a 70s disco compilation. That's when I first learnt that he hearted this singer in a big way. Several years pass, an autobiography and a Donna Summer compilation later, and I am just as hooked on this lovely lady.
Now I am off to add some Donna Summer on to my ipod.

Thanks to Evie for her Handmade Romance

Photography & doll by Evie Barrow
A few years ago I commissioned a much hearted doll designer, Evie Barrow of Handmade Romance fame. She made my first daughter, Gwen, a pirate doll.
More recently I approached Evie again with the same request, as I have since had another daughter, Keira. To my absolute delight the new pirate doll [pictured above] arrived in the mail today. Just in time for Keira's first birthday.
I couldn't thank Evie enough for such a darlin' little doll.

Just A Little Peek

Once in a blue moon I like to share with you a lil' sneak peek at my art journal - a book filled with unconnected doodlings and thoughts.
I am lost without my journals whether it be a written or an art journal. What about you? Do you keep journals?

Who Are You

I loved this song so much when I was a little girl. I played with my Barbie dolls, climbed trees and wanted to rock out to music like this. Decades later this song still gives me pleasant chills.

Just Reading

Photography by Melissa Gaggiano

I've been doing lots of thinking lately and not a lot of writing here. I did a fair amount of blogging last month and that just blogged me out. So this month I’m taking a little blogging sabbatical. Perhaps.

There are a few things on my plate at the moment. My granny square blanket project continues. I have high hopes that this project will be complete in three weeks. Pinkies crossed, yeah?

I am also reading. Surprise! Surprise!

I found a great deal on a Marian Keyes book in an op-shop. $3 for This Charming Man. Very, very happy about this. Kept announcing to everyone I met that I bought a good book for $3. When I read aloud excerpts from her books cannot help but put on what I imagine to be Marian’s Irish accent. As I type this I am even typing with an Irish accent.

I have three new books on order. One of the books is Twilight translated into French. Being an on again/off again Francophile it made a cosmic sense to blend it with my appreciation for Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight. What better incentive to learn a language than to use one of your favourite stories.
